A live album from Motörhead? Why. don't mind if I do. And here's the follow up to the first volume - 'The World is Ours Vol 1: Everywhere Further than Everyplace Else'. Surely you know the score by now and what to expect? If you don't you're probably not reading this anyway. The trio, lead by Lemmy Kilminster, have their formula learnt off by heart by now - high volume, stripped down, basic rock 'n' roll, and their amps really do go up to 11. Oh yes. No thrills, no spills hard rock with a punk attitude. This double live album, taken from the Wacken Festival in Germany as well as Sonisphere in the UK and Rock in Rio in Brazil, all from last year, shows that the band still have what it takes even after 35 years. The band come on and let rip through a set that comprises some of their best loved songs and a smattering of newer ones and that's it. Job Done. There is, as expected, fine versions of 'Bomber', Overkill', 'Stay Clean', 'The Chase is Better Than the Catch' and, of course, 'Ace of Spades'. Over the years the band have found a winning formula and stuck to it. And why not? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They just keep rollin' along. unphased by commercial considerations. Admittedly, there is, after so long a bit of a whiff of (self)parody about them - the lumbering rock Leviathan that refuses to roll over and die. But you always get the sense that band leader Lemmy is all too aware of this and partly doesn't care less and partly plays up to it with his tongue firmly in his cheek. The elephant in the room though is the question: "Is it as good as "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith'?" The short answer is no, but how do you top one of the greatest live albums ever recorded? And anyway that was aeons ago. This is now. Place the shiny little discs into your player, crank up the volume and let it all wash over you.
