Pete Yorn - P.Y.

Label: Because Music
Format: CD
Deliberately unpolished, yet compelling fifth solo album from New Jersey-based singer-songwriter Pete Yorn, which has been produced by the Pixies' Frank Black

Review

Pete Yorn's melancholic debut in 2001 is a decade apart from this collection of new songs. Frank Black took over the controls and prodution duties and sure sprinkled some of his magicalpixie dust. From opener' Precious Stone' it's evident the record is deliberately unpolished and has a real live feel to it. particularly with the drums and some trademark crashing guitars. There are shades of the Pixies, early R.E.M. and on the fantastic 'The Chase' even a vintage Ramones feel. The final track, 'Wheels', a Gram Parsons cover is the album's only melancholic moment. On first listen I was reeled in. A few listens on I am well .... hooked .
