Soft-on-the-ear, but monotonous sixth album of folk from New York-based singer-songwriter, Linda Draper
Review
‘Bridge and Tunnel’ is the sixth album from New York-based folk singer Linda Draper, and her third release for Planting Seeds Records. Linda recorded her debut album just 8 years ago and has been producing albums at a quick rate ever since then.
The album opens with ‘Limbo’, which is hazy and smoky, and has a chilled-out, lazy Americana sound. It is the sort of song that you might listen to on a hot afternoon with a cold beer by your side.
‘Sharks and Royalty’ is a gentle, beautiful folk number.‘I Will’ is very fragile, and, like the previous track, again easy on the soul and on the head after a hard day’s work.
‘Time Will Tell’ will have you quietly rocking along to it, and is something like Suzanne Vega, but faster. ‘Pushing Up the Day’ is as soft as an early spring day. While ‘Close Enough’ is an acoustic story telling number of the finest order which again finds Linda in Vega territory.
‘Broken Eggshell’ is a foot tapper that is reminiscent of Norah Jones. The title track is an acoustic-based Americana number with a strong and commanding vocal.
‘Mother's Little Helper’ is a Rolling Stones number from 1966, but here sounds as if it was a song written for a woman to sing. ‘Last One Standing’ ends the album and is a fine example of classy singer/songwriter material.
‘Bridege and Tunnel’ is a decent album, but too many of its tracks unfortunately sound the same.
