Sad Day for Puppets - Marble Gods/Big Waves

Label: Sonic Cathedral
Format: 7"
Excellent 60s-influenced pop on vinyl only single from Swedish-based band, Sad Day for Puppets

Review

Sad Day for Puppets hail from Sweden and come from a suburb in Stockholm. 'Marble Gods' sounds like a speeded up 'Needles and Pins' by the Searchers from Liverpool, as played by the Teenage Fanclub and sung by Tracy Tracy from the Primitives. It is a total head bopper with guitars that jangle and sugar sweet vocals from singer Anna Eklund. 'Big Waves' is sung by Anna's sister, Annika, and recalls a beatnik the Raveonettes. It is very 1960s in its feel with its smooth guitar lines and primitive 'Psychocandy' era Jesus and Mary Chain/Velvets drums and has added to it lush strings. An excellent single.

Sad Day for Puppets - Leaf Cafe Bar, Liverpool, 20/4/2011
Despite running nearly an hour late, Richard Lewls is impressed by Swedish group Jeniferever and local act the Wild Eyes' emotive post rock at a show at the Leaf Cafe Bar in Liverpool
