Black Kids - Hurricane Jane

Label: Almost Gold Recordings
Format: 7"
Fine second single from new American band the Black Kids, whose music is a strong comibination of the Cure and the Go Team

Review

This is the second single from the new American band the Black Kids, whose music merges together the sounds of the Cure and the Go Team to superb effect. 'Hurricane Jane' is a great track that once it gets into your head sticks there and breeds. It sounds like 'Mixed Up' era the Cure without even trying too hard, and then as it warms up it gets more in the vein of the early Talking Heads at their most commercial. Disco flavoured, it is a song to get you on the dance floor without messing with your head. There are two coloured vinyl seven inches too. On the white one on the B side is 'Power in the Blood', which is like a new wave the Cure and has a drum machine rhythm that recalls 'A Forest'. On the orange 7 inch is 'You Only Call Me When You're Crying' which sounds more like Edwyn Collins and is minimal in its arrangements.

Track Listing:-

1 Hurricane Jane
2 Power In The Blood
