Dramatic second solo single from former Delgados star Emma Pollock
Review
This is the second single from former Delgados star Emma Pollock's debut solo album, 'Watch the Fireworks'.
'Acid Test' is a jangly Pixies-style number, but with its jagged, ballsy sound also comes across as sounding somewhere between PJ Harvey and Siouxsie Sioux. It backing harmonies with their pure southern Californian sunshine could meanwhile have been written by the Bangles.
The B side, 'Temporary Fix', starts off sounding as fragile and soft as a Nick Drake number and has an eerie vocal that sounds like it is from an Italian horror film from the mid 70's before the song moves up a gear at which point Emma comes over like Chrissie Hynde at her most raw. The last few minutes are the most dramatic I have heard on a record in years. It turns into a massive rollercoaster of a song which is something we rarely see anymore.
Excellent stuff indeed !
