Punchy new single from New York-based singer-song writer, which features Bruce Springsteen on backing vocals
Review
Extracted from Jesse Malin’s excellent, recently released third solo album ‘Glitter In The Gutter’, ‘Broken Radio’ is an obvious choice for mainstream radio, not least for the fact that it features a prominent Bruce Springsteen on backing vocals. Already a radio hit, in that it’s already enjoyed prolonged exposure on Radio 2 and most likely elsewhere too, whether that’ll see the single enjoy corresponding sales success remains to be seen.
For existing fans, the single doesn’t represent particularly good value – the remix is certainly no improvement on the original which is also included. ‘Sister Christian Where Are You Now’ meanwhile is a punchy up-tempo rocker which would have sat well on the new album - previously unreleased, it’s well worth seeking out to download rather than splashing out for the whole CD single. Where Malin really excels though is live on stage – don’t get me wrong his records are very good, but he’s one of the best performers I’ve seen for some time and I’d recommend catching him live without reservation next time he’s here.
