Superb smile-raising latest single from the Magic Numbers
Review
'This is a Song’ is the second single from the Magic Numbers’ second album, ‘Those the Brokes’, which, as it is more moody, has not been as welcomed as their first album.
‘This is a Song’is fine stuff indeed, starting off in psychedelic fashion before speeding up and being full of perfect harmonies. Like their previous big numbers and singles, it will put a smile on your face.
“Oh You Might as Well Live in My Head Now (The Jump Rope Song)’, the B side of the CDS, sounds like a home recording or a slick studio early take. It has a mid 70’s country rock vibe to it, and again is absolutely charming.
As well as the CDS, there are two 7 inchs. The first, which is a picture disc, is a live lounge session from Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show of a cover of Franz Ferdinand's second single, 'Take Me Out'. The Magic Numbers make it their own, stripping it down and turning into an acoustic country number.
The B side of the other seven inch, which comes in black vinyl, is a fine solo Romeo Stodart accoustic demo of 'Steal Me a Dream', which he wrote specially for a recent Jane Birkin album .
