Politically infused debut single from new hardcore act Future of the Left, who were formed out of the ashes of highly touted Welsh rockers Jarcrew and McLusky
Review
When I read about Future of the Left’s beginnings, being formed from the ashes of highly touted Welsh rockers Jarcrew and McLusky, I thought their debut single would be a lot more of a straight forward post hardcore affair, something similar to the likes of Hundred Reasons and Funeral for a Friend.
It sounds a little like that, but it also has much more of an edge to it and, rather than belting along, it rolls slowly and heavily along more akin to the likes of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age with huge driving bass lines and riffs that are room filling in their sound.
Future of the Left are made up of Andrew Falkous on guitar/vocals, Jack William Egglestone on drums and Kelson Louis Tregurtha Mathias on bass/vocals and. right off the bat, simply by reading the song titles, it is clear that they have something to say.
With 'Fingers Become Thumbs' and ‘The Lord Hates a Coward’ they carry on the torch of punk rock and reinvent it again with their politically infused lyrics. The reason why Future of the Left work so well is the fact they are not shoving anything down your neck in any way. This is the sound of a band who are fully confident with their sound and have made it their own. They have a wonderful under current of sarcasm to their delivery which really makes them special. It is patiently delivered and it is this skill which I believe will see Future of the Left far out live their respective old bands.
There is a real feeling of good old rock ‘n roll swagger about them, but these guys on the basis of these two songs have earned the right to walk or strut however they like. Expect big things.
