Back to see Vancouver all girl five piece the Organ for a second time, Dixie Ernill at the Late Rooms in Manchester watches them play a fiery and aggressive set and onceagain prove themselves to be very special indeed

Back in April I saw the Organ play in a tiny pub in Manchester in front of about 70 people. They were pretty special that night, so it isn’t any wonder that news has spread (coupled with an increased press) and tonight they are playing in a much bigger venue to three times as many people.
Interestingly, the band seem to have attracted a noticeable lesbian following in addition to the disenchanted youths and local scene chasers. All seem equally wrapped up in the angular, aggressive sonic shapes that are being produced. For tonight, the Organ are loud and singer Katie Sketch appears somewhat vexed as she tears into the songs with punk rock abandon, but still remains ice cool throughout.
The set consists of much of ace debut long player,'Grab The Gun', but there is also a welcome smattering of unreleased tracks to appease the most ardent follower.
Current single, the re-released 'Memorize The City', played at break-neck speed, album standout, 'Steven Smith', nonchalantly disposed of mid-set and the band’s rallying call of 'Brother' all receive great applause from a fervent audience, but it is the pure Smithsian charm of 'Let The Bells Ring'that leaves the deepest mark on yours truly.
There is no encore. There is no need. The Organ have once again proved themselves to be very special indeed.
