Impressive Led Zeppelin and Doors influenced debut album from the much hyped and acclaimed young Leeds group, the Music

Review

The Music's first album lasts 61 minutes and 28 seconds, all of which are very enjoyable. Hailing from Leeds and sounding very retro, they do sound at times to be very much in the Led Zeppelin/Doors/Verve chain of thinking, which is not a bad way to think at all. Frontman Robert's vocal does wobble in the style of Robert Plant on much of the album, but what makes this recording stand out is its instrumentation and strong tunes. For example, the opener 'The Dance' uses weird sound effects that sound very odd indeed, and on the single 'Take the Long Road and Walk It' there is what seems like a banjo break in its midst. On the whole this is very loud rock music. It perhaps sounds most like Led Zep, but 'Human' is more like the Doors, while 'Float' sounds like the Talking Heads 'Psycho Killer' and 'Too High' has a Verve groove to it. This is probably one of the year's stand out albums so far, and God do we need some !
