Reflective but enjoyable first Christmas album from Irish musician and Corrs member Andrea Corr
Review
Andrea Corr says she was inspired to make her first solo festive album after performing Christmas favourites at Our Lady's Hospice in Dublin. She was just so impressed by the positive reception her rendition of various Christmas favourites received there.
The mood of her album, simply named 'The Christmas Album' is quiet and reflective and the onus is more on the season's spiritual traditions rather than jolly party-making.
The 19th Century carol 'Curoo Curoo' is given an attractive Celtic makeover with help from Irish supergroup Zodomo and the new song 'Begin Again' is an interesting mix of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' with the very commercial swirling folk-rock sound that made The Corrs one of the world's better-known bands.
But the highlight of the album is Andrea's take on Elvis's 'Blue Christmas' - which she re-imagines as a twangy country duet, ably assisted by a throaty Ronnie Wood!
Andrea Corr's “The Christmas Album” will bring great pleasure to many of her fans.
