Excellent return to form on latest album from New York psychedelic band, White Hills
Review
White Hills are Dave W. on vocals and guitar, Ego Sensation on bass and backing vocals, and on this album drummer Antronhy (spelt correctly). Their previous album 'So You Are...So You'll Be' was more experimental and like a tribute to odd ball sci-fi and 'Star Wars', whereas this current album, 'Walks for Motorists', sees a return to their more familiar Wah Wah-infused sound.
'No Will' has the feel of early Bauhaus, and by its end has become a great Gothic anthem. '£SD or USB' has more of a Jam-based groove, and throws in the odd line of vocal.
'Wanderlust' combines political statement with industrial-styled beats. It is initially like a dirtier version of 'The Gift' by the Velvet Underground, until Dave W.'s Wah-Wah adds an element of Jimi Hendrix to it. 'Lead the Way' is edgy and psychedelic, and 'I.Nomad' like a very odd Teardrop Explodes instrumental experiment.
'We Are What You Are' is a sonic fusion of heavy bass, drums and guitar, while 'Automated City' is dub and fuzz-ridden. 'Life is Upon You', which is reminiscent of the Rolling Stones, is sung as a duet between Dave W. and Ego Sensation.
The title track ends the album, which has a killer groove that will have pints splashed all over dance floors. It is a long jam of a number with riffs galore, and is like the Velvet Underground given a dance treatment.
A fabulous return to form for White Hills.
