Review

Filmed at the Rockpalast in Dortmund in Germany, this is yet another of the archived filmed and audio recording series from this famous venue. This 1978 show was recorded before Wayne County became a 'she'. From the opening,then transvestite Wayne (Rogers), who renamed himself County (after Michigan's infamous woman's prison), was a loud and proud voice in the gay community. Originally from the redneck town of Dallas, Georgia, he was quickly embraced by the 'Warhol crowd' . Opener 'Night Time', after a rousing intro, proves that Wayne County and the Electric Chairs were a force to be reckoned. They played a big part in the then thriving punk scene as American compadres MC5 and the New York Dolls had done in rabble-rousing , old-fashioned rock and roll, and that is evident throughout this set. 'Rock 'n'Roll Cleopatra', 'Wonder Woman' and 'Man Enough to be a Woman' leave little to the imagination as Wayne gives the German audience a high voltage lesson in how rock music should be played . 'Cream in My Jeans' and 'Rock 'n' Roll' Resurection' end a high octane set, before the band conclude the set with encores of the now legendary 'If You Don't Wanna Fuck Me, Fuck Off' and the brilliant 'Out of Control'. This is another must own from the Rockpalast catalogue, and the accompanying DVD paints a vivid picture of high energy rock and roll and a ticket to a show you'd have been desperate to get to.
