Spectacularly diverse indie pop/rock on second album from Glaswegian singer-songwriter, Daffy
Review
Glasgow artist Stephen Dahill – or Daffy, as he is known – crafts a delightfully swaggering brand of indie pop/rock. His latest, independently recorded and released album, ‘Seconds Away’ is spectacularly diverse, ranging from delightful yet sombbe, ocean side piano tunes to a few hard, distortion infused guitars.
Daffy is able to garner an impressive array of comparisons from amongst his contemporaries. My best stab would be at the pop gem song craft expertise of Andy Partridge of XTC (as displayed on the opening track ‘John Chivery’) or the amber-toned, whiskey glass half-full melancholy of a master like Edwyn Collins (so clear on ‘Billy’ or the snazzy downer, ‘The Gingerbread Man’).
Whatever your taste might be, it’s likely to be found somewhere amid the wry edged tracks totaling a baker’s dozen. Daffy injects sly brand of humour, the kind of crackling quips that few artists have the bravado or stature to pull off with any credibility.
