Superb 60's-influenced harmonic pop on new vinyl single from Virginia-formed band, the Young Sinclairs

Review

What better way to blend blistering '60s garage with unforgettable early Brit rock than by combining the talents of vocalist/songwriter, Sam Lunsford, with John Thompson, Daniel Cundiff, Kyle Harris, Joe Lunsford and Samuel Lunsford? Hailing from Virginia, the Young Sinclairs formed in 2005, and have since then been self-producing and engineering albums with gorgeous harmonies, plaintive lyrics and tangible, forceful strumming. Masters of their stock and trade, they're part of the production collective, the Magic Twig Community and they have toured with the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Australian group the Lovetones and American band Blue Cheer as well as the Swedish band Dungen. With their new 4-song EP, 'You Know Where to Find Me' they bring back the visceral grooves that were seeded with homegrown favorites like 'Tough Face' (Chimeys) and 'Baby Blue' (The Young Sinclairs). The versatile Lunsford can mimic masters like Eric Burdon or Mick Jagger when he wants to be assertive, as in 'Remember This Song,' with its ironic overbites: "You say you're open/ How many times have you turned up your nose?," or he may just as easily croon, showing off his inviting, full-bodied range. These original songs are just long enough; never overstated, to evoke a mood and get you into a dream state. The Young Sinclairs are not only big fans of the golden songwriting past, but they're also keen on keeping classic formats alive and well; producing their material on vinyl and even cassette. 'You Know Where to Find Me', available in a 7 inch vinyl format, is sure to excite collectors, and the digital download version includes a surprise bonus track. Their themes recall the innocent ones that inspired giggly young delicious romance. 'I Have Always Been Here Before' is a modern day 'I Want to Hold Your Hand'. "Your eyes that just play tricks when you're not listening" is one of their more clever lines, which is masterfully upheld by some unbelievable 12-string riffery. Not surprisingly, titles like 'Ear to the Ground' reveal more substance after a few decent listens. The Young Sinclairs are just not a band that can be forgotten, and the wonderful feelings their jangly songs inspire will leave you with goosebumps and a fond affection for all those that came before them.
