Charming lo-fi 80's-influenced indie pop on second vinyl only single from East London trio, Flowers
Review
'Until You're Dead' is the second single from East London DIY flatmates Flowers, who consist of Rachel on vocals and one-stringed bass guitar, Sam on guitar and Jordan on drums. Flowers have toured with one time Fortuna POP! darlings, the Pains of Being Pure At Heart, and also played support to Young Marble Giants recently at a sold out Dingwalls gig. They were also the first band to do a session at Young Marble Giants' guitarist Stuart Moxham's new studio. The band play minimal DIY pure and perfect indie pop, so much that it could have easily have been recorded back in the day.
'Until You're Dead' is a fury of indie guitar pop, a burst of Primitives/Shop Assistants driven early energy, over which Rachel's vocal floats on top while Jordan hits his drums hit hard, making this a pure pop pogo fest.
'Clover' is dream pop, before it turns up a gear. Again it could easily have been recorded back in early '85. It is shambolic, messy but has class and is like C-86 reborn.
'Stuck', the EP's closing number, is a Rachel solo number, just a naked stripped vocal and her one string, which makes her sound exposed, but which also adds a touch of Drugstore and Mazzy Star-like quality to her voice.
A charming record!
