Fluent-toned debut single from Australian-based techno/house musician, Joe Stawarz
Review
A graduate in Composition of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Joe Stawarz followed a substantially different route to danceland and first appeared on the 'Somabeta' compilation.
Now, two years on, we're offered this orchestral, ambient track where his knack for writing shines through. Warm and calm, bright and matured, it is hard to imagine that 'Cry is a debut single, let alone one on a very reputed dance label.
Fret not, the Decimal remix for 'Cry' gets matters pumping and pounding. Some of the subtle undertones in the original 'Cry' stay in place, Decimal nonetheless takes this baby to higher grounds. 'Bird Whale' shows why Stawarz signed with Soma; this fluent and smooth house music with a gorgeous organ towards the end. The kind of track a DJ would look for to round off a set. 'Cry' is very promising.
