Blissful Velvet Underground and Jesus and Mary Chain-influenced second EP from London-influenced duo, the Blanche Hudson Weekend
Review
'The Rats in the Cellar' EP is the second release from former Manhattan Love Suicide members Caroline and Darren and appears on 7 inch blood red vinyl. Their debut 'Letters to Daddy' EP sold out in three months on Squirrel Records.
Grip of fear opens 'The Rats in the Cellar' EP and jangles away in a 1980's way that is instantly heartwarming. It is something like a female-fronted Jesus and Mary Chain during their 'Darklands' period.
'Sharks' is part Mazzy Star, part Velvet Underground and part Jesus and Mary Chain. Melt together and what you get is musical perfection.
'Only snow' is the best song that the Velvet Underground never recorded and sung by Nico, Crisp guitar cuts through the air, Caroline's vocal joins in in perfect harmony, the bass adds depth and by the time a Cale-like violin joins in you are, as with the rest of this EP, in total bliss.
