Superbly irreverent latest single from Texan pop punks, Bowling for Soup
Review
Bowling for Soup are one of those rare bands that, under normal circumstances, would otherwise fail. Having said that, Bowling For Soup are not normal. They have sometimes been dismissed as a funny/gimmick pop-rock band, but the humour in their lyrics hides surprisingly astute observations, such as the theme to 'Punk Rock 101', which highlighted the hypocrisy of the alternative where everybody claims to be different, yet looks exactly the same.
All of which brings me around to Bowling For Soup’s latest offering. I am happy to say to that their latest single retains all the irreverence that we have come to expect from this Texas based band. Whilst some of the observations are a little flat and the humour not as biting, this is still a great little song in which double-entendres abound, but I doubt that this will be as popular at nightclubs as some of Bowling for Soup's other singles.
What makes this song stand out from those by other pop-rock bands that saturate the music scene is that Bowling for Soup possess a quality that is lacking in others. Bowling for Soup are incredible musicians that have learned to play extremely well together. Their musical talents seamlessly mesh together, and the vocals are never drowned out by the music, thus allowing you to fully appreciate the lyrics.
Overall, this is a great little track from Bowling for Soup, and whilst it could easily be dismissed through their association with other pop-rock bands, 'My Wena' is a single that deserves to be listened to!
