Review

'Plaster Casts of Everything’ is the first single from Liars’ new self-titled album. It is edgy and rough, a grunge track worthy of being written by Nirvana at their very peak, Like Nirvana they are also a three piece consisting of Angus Andrew (vocals/guitar), Aaron Hemphill (bass, keyboards) and Julian Gross (drums). ‘Plaster Casts of Everything’ works as it is simple but effective. Andrew’s vocal sounds high pitched, while his guitar screams all over it. The bass and drums add that extra throb to give it an edge that makes it damn special. There is both a CDS and vinyl version. The B side of the CDS is’ Mimic the Hurricano’ which is softer in tone and sung like a chant. The groove here has an offbeat post punk flavour. On the B side of the vinyl is ‘Volcano Police’, which sounds like a freaky version of the Fall at their most experimental. It is weird but very original.
