Mighty Roars - Sellotape

Label: One Little Indian
Format: CDS
Unremarkable second single on One Little Indian for London based art rockers the Mighty Roars, which takes all its inspiration from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Review

Signed to One Little Indian Records, the Mighty Roars clearly see themselves as a monster art-rock trio. The problem is that’s really is as far as it goes. Sure, they might have a strong vocalist in the shape of Lara Granquist in tow, and they’re clearly musically accomplished, but while simply sounding like a UK version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs à la The Noisettes might well be in vogue, it is hardly inspiring and barely registers a flicker on the originality-o-meter. But does this matter? Well, yes, it does. Let’s face it, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs practically patented the neo-new wave sound, so we don’t really need another pale facsimile, thank you very much. So, the Mighty Roars should simply give it a rest and leave such noise-fests to the experts.

Fast, furious and loud, new London group the Mighty Roars have all the landmarks of a great punk band. Dave Toynton enjoys "their set of hard, raunchy, ecstatic punk rock" at the Archway in London
