TD Lind - Come In from the Cold

Label: Tall Tale Records
Format: CDS
Enjoyable debut single from English born, but much travelled singer-songwriter, TJ Lind

Review

Released as a sample from his forthcoming full album, ‘Let’s Get Lost’ is TD Lind’s debut single. English born Lind is much travelled; he’s lived in Louisville, Kentucky and played it seems everywhere from small clubs and pubs in London to playing jazz piano in Paris to performing in New Orleans and Memphis. And it shows; there’s a lived-in feel to Lind’s smoky-sweet vocals which makes him unique in today’s overfilled singer-songwriter genre and he obviously knows his way around a melody. Of the three songs here the title track is obviously the strongest. With some neat guitar picking it doesn’t sound too far removed from a demo, albeit a well produced one, and, with some perfectly executed slide guitar, it really does stand out as something a little different. Surprisingly, considering this demo feel these songs were produced by Rupert Hine, respected producer for Kevin Ayers, Camel, Quantum Jump and successful solo artist in the 70’s and 80’s. But maybe this stripped down sound is the best way to listen to Lind’s music. The songs stand on their own merits without being over produced and the beauty in both Lind’s melodies and vocals shine through. There are some ‘sound effects’ in the title song but they do not take over the song, just add a little texture here and there. As a taster for the album the single works well. Lind must be aware that he has, in these three songs, demonstrated that he is a songwriter of considerable talent and in choosing Hine has collaborated with a producer who is capable of bringing out the beauty in his songs. ‘Come In From The Cold’ does what a good single should; make one want to check out the album and hear more from Lind.
