Sparklehorse - Don't Take My Sunshine Away

Label: Capitol
Format: CDS
Experimental Beatles-inspired and summery-sounding latest single from Americana act, Sparklehorse

Review

'Don't Take My Sunshine Away'is produced by Sparklehorse's main man Mark Linkous and Dangermouse. It has a very experimental feel and sounds like a mid 60's Beatles during their 'Revolver' and 'Rubber Soul' era. Linkous' vocal is distorted and as it moves on it becomes more dirtier in feel. 'Ghosts in the Sky (2006 version)' is much heavier, a heads down rocker of the Americana variety, while 'Knives of Summertime' has a weird groove, is experimental again and also has a John Lennon take on its vocal and also recollects Luke Haines of the Auteurs. I quite happy with the summer beats coming off this. All these three tracks were originally released as 7 inch only singles, a week apart in September, before now being released collectively again on this CDS single.

Track Listing:-

1 Don't Take My Sunshine Away
2 Ghost In The Sky
3 Knives Of Summertime
