Compelling and confident third single from Luxembourg, who recently played a London gig which included Morrissey in the audience
Review
This is the third single by the band that played with the Boyfriends earlier in the year at a gig at the London Metro, which was attended by Morrissey.
Morrissey even took away a copy of this single. Mind you, they are still waiting for him to pay for it. I can see why he likes it though.
'We Only Stayed Together for the Children' is dramatic and compelling with an air of confidence about it. It has a natural swagger about it that comes without the band trying to hard. It is as cool as anything by the Smiths or earlier Suede. At times, it recalls Britpop. There is a big hint of the early 80's about it and a fab reprise on the end.
'A Secret Place', its B side, is much slower with a sleazy vocal from singer David. It starts sounding like a combination of Depeche Mode and Japan, but then as it moves on it sounds like a heavier-edged Pulp jamming with early 70's Roxy Music.
