Review
'Retrospective in Stereo' is eight tracks of class psychedelia recorded from 1993 to 2003 by electronic artist Jon Chambers. It brings to mind all the elegance of psychedelia's best acts-the Beatles, the Byrds, the Velvets, Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3 and the Rain Parade.
'Incantation'is a demo. It is slightly too long and self indulgent, and sounds like a trippy combination of the Doors and Spacemen 3. 'Open Your Mind' is more perky. Imagine the Byrds playing covers of songs from the Beatles' 'Rubber Soul'. 'Time to Fall' and 'Forever One' are both somewhat Rain Parade-flavoured. The latter also drifts into less experimental Velvets territory. 'Shake It' starts off sounding like Spacemen 3 and Pink Floyd, but finishes as a post rock number, while 'Fire Inside' is again of reminiscent of Spacemen 3, but also adds sitars. 'Hey Little Girl' sounds like Bob Dylan, and incorporates a 70's style flute. 'Fall to Time', the last number, sounds like it was recorded to be played backwards, and the more psychedelic elements on 'Revolver' and 'Sgt Pepper'and also again 'Spacemen 3.'
This is very cool stuff indeed and a vinyl release only.
