Enjoyable split 7" single from British emo punks, My Awesome Compilation, and Americans Grant Theft Autumn
Review
One of the best tracks from My Awesome Compilation's slightly disappointing 'The View Is Amazing' mini-album ‘As Always’ finds the Leicester emo-rockers on good form. Like the rest of that release, ‘As Always’ comes short of capturing the quality of their live act but it’s a fine introduction to a band who should be much bigger than they are.
However this split 7” is stolen by Fall Out Boy’s ‘Grand Theft Autumn’. Although it is a bit sanitised for proper punk it’s hard not to be taken by this rather plaintive tune. It veers dangerously close to harmonising and its format is so well known you’ll feel you’ve heard it before even when you haven’t. That said but Fall Out Boy are definitely one of the better youthful new punk bands that the Americans seem to be growing in vats at the moment.
Taken together it seems the Yanks just win out on this split single. Both party’s efforts are worth a listen though
