Customers - Black Water / Every Time I Hear Your Name

Label: Shady Lane
Format: 7"
Messy-sounding, but fine new 7" single from Brighton-based five piece the Customers, one of the first signings to Shady Lane, the new label of Slowdive and Mojave 3's Neil Halstead

Review

The Customers' new single is only available on 7' vinyl and has come out on Shady Lane, the new label of Slowdive and Mojave 3's Neil Halstead. The Customers all come originally from Devon. The band, however, formed in Brighton on Christmas Day 2001, where all five of its members had relocated seperately. 'Black Water' has a very English, pastoral feel to it. Frontman Will sounds like the Kinks' Ray Davies. It is a fine song, but it sounds increasingly messy as it progresses. 'Every Time' is more mellow in tone. Nothing much exciting happens during this track as it progresses, and it would be probably instantly forgettable except it does have the line of "Every time I hear your name I bleed", which is great.....
