"Messy, badly recorded, shouty punk-pop " on new 7' from Antipodean noise oiks the Mint Chicks, who last year toured Australia with the White Stripes
Review
Chosen to support the White Stripes on the Australia/New Zealand leg of their 2003 World Tour, Antipodean noise oiks the Mint Chicks release the follow up to their debut to last years 6-track EP 'Octagon Octagon Octagon' on the Fierce Panda imprint.
A former Kerrang single of the week, 'Post No Bills/Blue Team Go' is pressed up on fantastic minty green vinyl. Beyond this the reasons for the existence for the one minute 15 seconds of 'Blue Team Go' is hard to fathom. This break-neck ball of noise is over before the listener has had chance to pose the question "what was that?". The equally raw 'Post No Bills' shows slightly more promise - being more tuneful but of equal demo recording standard.
Perhaps I'm missing the point somewhere along the line. Perhaps if messy, badly recorded, shouty punk-pop is your thing then you might be able to get more out of this delightfully coloured seven inch than I did. Perhaps it's difficult to pass verdict on the back of barely three minutes of music. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go for the latter option.
