Classic "upbeat, energetic pop rock" from leading lights of the emo scene, Cleveland, Ohio's Brandtson
Review
I’m here to tell you that this is an incredible new record from the incredible Brandtson.
Brandtson are a 4 piece from Cleveland, Ohio and are one of the Deep Elm label’s flagship acts. Their first album 'Letterbox' was released in 1998, followed by 'Falling Star Collection' in 1999, then 'Trying To Figure Each Other Out' in 2000 and most recently the classic 'Dial In Sounds', one of the slow burning hits of last year. This is their second EP release for the label and demonstrates that Brandtson are still one of the scene’s leading lights.
Brandtson have an original sound, hard to categorise. Their hardcore roots show through, with tight, penetrative drums and guitar, but essentially they are an upbeat, energetic pop-rock band. All songs have great harmonies, pretty jangly guitar lines, subtle backing instrumentation and – most important – incredibly catchy melodies. The stand out track, 'Ain’t No Trip To Cleveland', captures the essential Brandtson and will sure as hell be a summer mixtape favourite with emo kids everywhere. All 6 tracks are, however, brilliant. Another great Deep Elm release. But did you really expect anything else?
