The great thing about writing for this magazine is hearing music from around the world. Whether it is Norwegian pysch rock or alt-country from Australia, I'm a sucker for a good 90% of it. And now I have another favourite in Jason Walker. Walker hails from the land down under and he plays like he has the dust embedded in his fingernails. His Oz rock lineage is prolific to say the least having played with Showpony, Youth Group and the amazing Golden Rough. But how are his songs? In a word, beautiful Jason wears his heart on his sleeve and gives up his soul. He fills his debut with originals and covers and slays everyone of them. He takes on Tom Waits and Gram Parsons and makes them sound new. His own songs are countrified and folksy with a gritty rawness about them. His voice reminds me of Steve Earle and his guitars have definite Byrdsy jangle to them. Fans of ANY genre of music should own this. An outstanding debut .
