Pilate - Adored

Label: Gentlemen
Format: 7"
Excellent limited edition 7" single, with equally impressive B side, from Norwegian group reminiscent of Lush

Review

Pilate hail from from Norway and at times the first side of this excellent limited seven inch of which there are 200 only reminds me of Lush (except of course without Miki and Emma's vocals) . The drums are way off in the distance, not that they sound out of place or too quiet. It's just the fact that they are surging ahead, dragging the guitar and vocals in their wake. Overall 'Adored' is isolated, calm and serene, but the song claws at you for attention, without ever screaming "LISTEN TO ME" which is no mean feat. It's on the B-side, a real gem of a remix of the A side by Sellick Manouver, where the initial hazy qualities are used to full effect. Mixing classic indie guitar song structure and technology has rarely been the happiest of relationships, but here the guitars and drums are dismantled and reconstructed into string laden loops, with the vocals sounding like an echo from a transistor radio. Not that song has been thrown away or is squeezed together sampled monotony. It's just a reflection of the original in a new light and a great reinterpretation of the track.
