"Underwhelming" typically isn't a compliment, but in the case of this CD it is meant in the best of ways. this album is so warm and soft sounding that before you know it 40 minutes has passed and it's time to play it again. Eric Ostermeier (also in 'Should') is the man behind Motion Picture and cellos, acoustic guitars, and quiet drumming make up the sounds behind his gentle voice. The lyrics recount tales of romance and broken hearts, yet the tone is light and wistful throughout. Fans of 'Le Grand Magistery' artists such as Mr Wright and 'Momus' will feel right at home with Motion Picture. A lovely CD of classy, intelligent pop that's perfect for a nice Spring or Summer or Fall or Winter day.

A Paper Gift (2001)
The first album that I ever reviewed for Pennyblackmusic was Motion Picture's previous album 'For a Distant Movie Star'. While I'd like to think my review writing technique has gotten better over that
