Review

Recorded in a farm studio in Ravenna Province, Italy comes the second album by the all-string instruments quartet tellKujira, a limited edition on vinyl of 250 copies, and a Bandcamp download. The eponymous, serene ouverture is a try out like a peacefully babbling brook. Two guitarists, a viola player and a cello player, the latter two bringing a delicately stormy change on the second composition 'Trompe les Dieux' (Fool The Gods). Continuing dissonances on all five compositions, it's a coming and going of tickling tension. The occasional eruptions on viola and cello do interfere but the guitars manage to tame them always. It's like orchestral mayhem meets jolly plink-plonk. Imagine Glenn Branca and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra duelling.
