The Mancunian rock band Oasis have just released their new album capturing the two sell-out concerts the band gave at Knebworth from August 10-11 in 1996, when they were at the height of their fame. With a landmark audience of 125,000 each night, these were some of the largest concerts in UK history. Commenting on the iconic events, Liam Gallagher said: “I can’t remember much about it, but I’ll never forget it. It was Biblical.” Available as a double CD and triple vinyl LP, ‘Knebworth 1996’ is also accompanied by a documentary directed by Jake Scott in the CD/DVD bundle version. The album poignantly re-creates the feel of the mid-1990s, when the band had helped define the musical era. The twenty-track collection is replete with wall-to-wall rockers propelling the listener at a frenzied pace. Highlights of this live album include: the energetic opener ‘Columbia’; the punchy rock-and-roll number ‘Roll With It’; crowd-pleasing ‘Round Are Way’ with its infectious horn accompaniment; the ballad ‘Wonderwall,’ the first 1990s song to hit over one billion streams on Spotify; the rousing ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’; hit single ‘Champagne Supernova’; and the closer, a quirky, orchestra-backed cover of the Beatles’ ‘I Am The Walrus’. An album full of fan favourites, encapsulating a time when the band were at the pinnacle of their success, ‘Knebworth 1996’ is a nostalgic, feel-good trip back to the past.

Heathen Chemistry (2002)
Predictably catchy, but uninspiring and unoriginal jukebox pop from the Gallagher brothers
