Excellent second album of instrumental post-rock from Kandodo, the solo project of Bristol-based heads front man, Simon Price
Review
'k2o' is the second solo album by Simon Price who has recorded over twenty albums as the leader of Bristol-based band, the Heads. It was recorded in Bristol, London, Memphis and Italy over a three year period, using a Fender Mustang, a Microkorg and lots of fuzz.
It is only a six track album, and opens with 'Slowah' which has lots of slow Wah Wah guitar, smooth keyboards and just enough added drums, care of Heads Drummer Wayne Maskell.
'Grace and...' is a dark post rock mood piece with some sampled spoken words from a tour guide for Elvis's Graceland mansion. On 'Waves' Italian waves brush against the shore to the tune of what sounds like a banjo, while the psychedelic 'Kandy Rock Mountain' is like a chilled-out 'Indian Summer' by the Doors
'July 28th' is loud and haunting, and again has a Doors-like vibe. Slow keyboards over wah wah guitar take the listener on a psychedelic trip.
'Swim to the Sea' takes up all of the second side on the vinyl pressing, and is a multi-textured, perfectly-paced, chill-out vinyl, hypnotic and trancey that twists and turns but which keeps you afloat in a psychedelic haze
A great album.
