New York shoegazing/psychedelic noise trio A Place to Bury Strangers recently finished playing support to MGMT on a UK tour. Anthony Strutt sees them play an explosive, yet destructive set at a headline date at the ICA in London

A Place to Bury Strangers are to me the perfect band. They are, however, very loud and I do fear for their hearing after the bashing they have given my ears.
Tonight this New York shoegazing/psychedelic trio, who released their self-titled debut album at the end of 2007, are playing a headline date, having spent the last fortnight as a support act to MGMT and following them around Britain.
Their sound is a lot tighter than when they first visited London back at the start of the year. Singer Ollie Ackerman’s vocals are sadly inaudible for the first part of the set as a result of his own mega noisy guitar attacks, but this doesn't last for too long.
Their songs are, to quote the band, “total sonic f**king annihilation”, as was the state of Ollie's guitar by the end of the show. It was completely destroyed, but what a beautiful noise this band make.
Bass player Jono Mofo informed me after the show that half of the next album is written and recorded, which is lovely news to hear. They are to me the best new band of the last two years.
