Not always very effective latest EP from Cure, which released just before their new album, consists of remixes of the four singles they have released over the last four months
Review
The Cure have released four singles in the last four months, and this last single, prior to their new album coming out, consists of remixes of those four singles.
'The Only One (Remix 4)' by 30 Seconds to Mars is a perfect remix, letting the song breathe, and giving it a different texture but without spoiling it.
'Freakshow (Wolves at the Gate Remix) sounds like an Italian house club 12 inch remix. It is good for clubbers but not for Cure fans, and actually ruins the song.
'Sleep When I'm Dead (Remix 4)' by Gerard Way and Julian K gives an extra life to the song, making it more upbeat but remaining true to the original song.
'The Perfect Boy (Remix 4)' by Patrick Stamp and Pete Wentz sounds like a mix between that song the song and 'In Between Days', but works surprisingly well.
The final remix is 'Exploding Head Syndrome (4 single Remix)' by 65 Days of Static, the Cure's recent support band. It consists of remixes of all four singles. All four songs start slowly with minimal backing and end up sounding totally mushy. 'Freakshow' is worst of all with Robert Smith sounding like a dalek by the it. This remix is almost 22 minutes long, but it feels like it goes on for hours and is totally pointless.
