Impressively straightforwward EP from Iowa four-piece guitar outfit the Envy Corps
Review
When writing this EP it seems that the Envy Corps went to some sort of indie rock scientist for a consultation. The Iowa four-piece add the right parts at the right times, retain brevity as a dominating principle, and give us a limited kaleidoscope of indie rock aesthetics.
'Story Problem' builds and builds until a choir of friends is la la la-ing into infinity. Smart lyrics and technically impressive guitar lines circle around a song that sounds as if Sunny Day Real Estate continued to rock through the 00’s.
'Sylvia,' and 'Party Dress' show us that rock music can still be cool, while 'Rooftop' shows the group’s acoustic, balladering side. A side that might be best left untapped.
Like Tapes and Tapes ‘The Loon', the Envy Corps have issued a release that gives another glimmer of hope that maybe guitars and 4/4 time aren’t dead after all.
