Review

'Once Upon a Time' is third single from the London-based the Boyfriends, and has been released just ahead of their self-titled debut album. 'Once Upon a Time' comes on like an attack to the senses. A hand in the air anthem, it is a song about rejoicing, a song that celebrates life itself and, which backed by great instrumentation, has a powerful vocal from Martin Wallace over its top. 'They Don't Know' is a cover of the old Kirsty MacColl song. It has always been in their live set, and is sung by Martin with a great sense of wonder, as if he is involved in a cockney knees up in his local pub, prior to heading towards the lights of uptown and the West End. 'Apathy in the UK' is much more moodier, but with a flare missing in the UK indie scene since we lost Gene. These are all damn fine songs. Looking forward to the album now...
