Anna Gudaniec shoots incendiary Manchester based art rockers Oceansize at a show at the London Scala
Article
Mancurian band Oceansize formed in 1998, and funded themselves through various jobs including writing music for arcade games and building/repairing helicopters before, after being 'Best Unsigned Band in Manchester' by the Manchester Evening News, turning professional in 2001.
Oceansize released their epic debut album 'Effloresce' to critical acclaim on Beggar's Banquet in 2003. Their second album 'Everyone into Position' followed in September of 2005 to further acclaim.
They include Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Can, Cardiacs, Jane's Addiction, the Verve, Swervedriver, the Beach Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Gong, and Biffy Clyro amongst their eclectic range of influences.
While they have a good reputation for their studio work, Oceansize believe the only way to really appreciate their sound and reputation is to see their incendiary live show.
The band have played support slots to the likes of fans Elbow, Lift to Experience, the Cooper Temple Clause and Aerogramme as well as several tours on their own.
Oceansize played their own headlining tour in March. These photos were taken by Anna Gudaniec for Pennyblackmusic at the London date of that tour at the Scala on March 23rd.
