Spectacularly energetic and creative indiepop from London based 4 piece Girlinky on their debut album, 'I Want the Tsunami'
Review
'I Want The Tsunami' claim London based 4 piece Girlinky on their debut album. In English 'Tsunami' means 'harbor wave'. 'Tsunami', the word, is represented by two characters. The top character, "tsu", means harbor, while the bottom character, "nami", means "wave".
Girlinky, the band, is presented by Scott Brodie (Bass, Vocals), Rob Talsma (Drums, Vocals), Sarah Ferguson (Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals) and Chris Ayles (Guitar, Vocals). The transaction of the word is 12 tracks long. It uses 4 voices and countless variations of sounds to capture the meaning perfectly.
Edgy electronic music introduces the album. The first song, 'Newspaper Round', artfully uses a keyboard to puzzle all the sounds out into a smooth tune. Sarah and Rob duet together ,and sound as if they are talking to each other from long distance, but with the closest understanding.
'Hai Wakarimashita!' has already been released as a single. It certainly makes up with its guitars and strong sound for the gentler first song.
A touch of mystery drifts across 'Dunedin'. Girlinky's music is relatively easy listening, but on this one you find yourself looking into Scott's wistful lyrics and drowning in the band's deep soul.
Another burst of electronica comes on 'Swimmingly'. Sarah's keyboard mixed with guitars storm down on you with no warning. Scott's voice appears later on in the tune. Sarah's voice follows, but remains in the background softening the song.
As much as Girlinky give off great energy and excitement, they also know how to become delicate and gentle. 'Cowboy Conscience' is the best example. It carries you along on the softest tune and makes you feel that any movement around you will cause you great dizziness.
Towards the end 'I Want the Tsunami' builds up in power and finishes with a spectacular explosion of sounds on the last track, 'Kim Deal Called Me a Pussy'.
A raw energy of guitars shoots its way through you deliberately shivering all your music senses. Vocals fight their way through the music with similar determination. "I've never had a moment to be/ to see how to be/ to feel I'll be real" roars Scott
Girlinky debut album' shows off their immense spirit and willpower. While the band have provided themselves with a regular voice, they have not wasted their creative potential at all.
