Sometimes the best records are the ones that barely register at all. Who says its got to be about loud guitars and pounding drums? The Pilot Ships have constructed an atmospheric record which is comprised of quiet times and laid back isolation.
Split between Austin and Chicago, the quintet(which features members of Bees Are Black, Monroe Mustang, and Stars of the Lid) utilizes hushed guitars and keyboards as well as languid piano to emphasize their emotional output. Cheree Jetton's haunting vocals rise to the front and back again, never seeming overpowering or out of place.
Plucked acoustics mesh with electric guitars for a lazy sound that would sound best while sitting on the porch watching for the sun to come up or go down.
Beautifully compelling soundscapes that are well worth the listen.
