Fabulous psychedelic blues rock on second EP From West Midlands-based group Luna and the Moonhounds
Review
We first discovered the gargantuan talents of Luna & the Moonhounds a few years ago at the wonderful Deerstock Festival, which takes place deep in the Nottinghamshire countryside. They proved so good that they have graced the various stages of the weekender ever since. I was working the pit with my camera and they came on and played a mindblowing Led Zeppelin cover, which blew not just me away but the packed crowd that had gathered to see them too. Later that night they did about an hour in the Stage in the Glade at stupid o'clock in the morning, which confirmed in my mind that they should be rocketed to stardom as soon as possible. Instead of building themselves a rocket, however, they have been hard at work in the studio and come up with this little gem. Hot on the heels of their first offering, Luna and the Moonhounds, who are a female-fronted five-piece from the West Midlands, bring you their second release, the 'Handcrafted' EP.
Their sound is best described as psychedelic blues rock. Heavily inspired by the 60s and 70s, they are comprised of Aimee Goodall (vocals), Joseph Rudman (guitar/vocals), Ben Davies (guitar/vocals), Luke Weaver (bass) and Sam Barker-Poole (drums). With Goodall's distinct vocals and the backing of a group of close friends collaborating to create music they love, I am tipping this trippy entourage to conquer this land and even cross seas to deliver their unique sound. I urge you all to jump in and take a listen. There are big things to come. Marvellous!
