Compelling but difficult new live radio sessions album recorded in America from German avant-garde experimentalists Faust
Review
Faust's new live radio sessions album was recorded in America, and finds them remaining compelling but difficult work.
The title track last 17 minutes 30 seconds long and is probably the best track here. It's very eerie and melancholic with slow violins, while a German tale is spoken over the top. It also edges towards a Velvets-like groove.
'Birds of Texas' is played over a slow beat, and slow-paced drums create the mood for what is a short instrumental. 'Partitur' is a short number of joy, while 'La Poulie' has a catchy riff which drags the track along and French-spoken sounding dialogue is spoken over it.
'Chlorophyl' is slow and funky in its big grooves. 'Lights Flickr' has an angry, punky sound while 'Fish' which ends the album which is as experimental and weird as you would expect and a love song for the sea.
