Clumsy second collaborative album between Italian composer Teho Teardo and former Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds guitarist Blixa Bargeld
Review
Italy's Teho Teardo and Germany's Blixa Bargeld are somehow the equivalent of Leonard Cohen and Howard Devoto. They cross borders as if they are in a Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht theatrical play.
At times deceptive but all too often too less than spectacular, Teardo's clumsily worded English narrative, however, prove why Latin and Italian ought to remain his tongue of choice. Seamlessly changing between Italian and German, it becomes obvious Teardo's decision to also babble and ramble in English is quite a mistake. 'Nirgendheim' comes pretty close to perfection. It is sung as it ought to be. At least we get the idea of what the album could have sounded like.
Yet his clumsily worded English lyrics should never have seen the light of day. Contrarily, Teardo's words in German sound far more convincing. Whilst undermining his voice of authority, and thus running short of words, Teho Teardo manages to express himself, singing narratives in German in more than a decent fashion. But that's about it. "Abwarten und Tee trinken."
