Paul St. Hilaire - Nah Ina It

Label: Jahtari
Format: CD
Excellent urban dub on 12 inch vinyl only EP from Berlin-based musician, Paul St. Hilaire

Review

An urban dub music label from the former East Germany, Jahtari in equal measure owes a debt to the Brooklyn based Wordsound label and London's On-U-Sound, and so here comes Paul St. Hilaire, a Berlin resident these days, rhyming through deep dark matters of anti-drug dub, 'Nah Ina It'. Mashing up samples from top ranking 1970's reggae riddims, the lead track off this 4-track EP is an ill chill workout, in a way bringing a brighter side to the music of Burial, Britain's moody dubstep maestro. 'Nah Ina It' floats on a similarly smooth wave, whilst offering plenty of food for thought. The three tracks on the flipside work like the best side to an LP. The 'One O' Clock Rock', like the A-Side 'Nah Ina It', produced by Christian Röpke, is the next standout track. Mind expanding echo effects on these two tracks top off this set. Unashamedly borrowing from King Tubby and Lee Perry, though, it's dub with a message.
