Austra - Olympia

Label: Domino Records
Format: CD
Uninspiring and tediously dull second album of disco pop from once promising Toronto-based electronic act, Austra

Review

Not even close to the catchy synth-pop from their debut, Austra drag along a year's worth of non-innovation with their second LP. There is absolutely nothing to wake the neighbours up for. Rather hard to tell tracks apart on it, 'Olympia' proves to be a painstakingly methodical exercise in gibberish disco pop. Tedious would be a far too complementary word, and the flattened down vocals of Katie Stelmanis, a once greatly inspiring singer, reiterate as forelorn reminiscences. 'Olympia' ultimately stands out as a stunning achievement in boredom. With no memorable songlines whatsoever, Austra have probably won the league of losing it the fastest.
