Sarah Blasko's fourth album 'I Awake' was released in April and this single highlights a darker and more vulnerable Blasko than we have previously seen. Combining "seething strings with strong percussion", 'God-Fearing' presents us with "an immediate and unfiltered result of an evening spent in the company of emotional opportunists." The track opens with "You've got some nerve/You know you make me hate/One thing I love/You, try to take that away." No punches are pulled here, and she manages to invoke a sense of being brow beaten and lectured about a person's right to go on about what they believe without respecting your right to disagree. "Biting my lip/And holding my tongue/Was the most stupid thing I've ever done." The sound is beautiful and the lyrics, which I identify with straight away, are rapier sharp and delivered with a disarmingly angelic tone.
