Domenico - Cine Prive

Label: Plug Research Music
Format: CD
Disorientatingly pleasant debut solo album, sung in Portugese, from Brazilian bosssa nova singer and multi-instrumentalist, Dominico

Review

A melting pot of bossa nova and lounge, with bits of psychedelia and indie thrown in brings about this glowing, but occasionally unreal session from Rio de Janeiro. Smooth shuffles such as on the title track are immediately recognizable as Brazilian. Domenico's vocals are soulful and gentle, sung in Portuguese of course. Sometimes as a quirk but always as a relaxation the ten tracks also feature Moreno Veloso from +2, Glenn Kotche and Money Mark amongst many. A multi-instrumentalist himself, Domenico is steadfast in style, yet combines eerie effects and mellow and varied beats to great effect . A couple of tracks, from the ten track session, already sound like lullabies and the CD ends with three bonus tracks recorded, indeed, for childrens TV. Those lead to a merry disorientation, through which the seamless bossa nova imposes its charm. Even though I don't understand a single iota from the lyrics, to my ears they sound like poetry. Fascinatingly pleasant.
